THE MISSION STATEMENT FOR THE CREATIVE PROPERTY RIGHTS ALLIANCE (CPRA)

The Creative Property Rights Alliance (CPRA) consists of individuals from the creative community, including but not limited to performing artists, authors, athletes, and musicians, whose primary purpose is to secure federal legislation to protect against unauthorized commercial exploitation of an individuals' identity.

The ability to exploit the creative work of celebrities and private individuals alike is increasing with rapidly expanding digital and as yet unforeseen technological advances. A confusing and inadequate patchwork of state laws, and in many cases no state laws at all governing the treatment of so-called "right of publicity", cannot and does not stop this exploitation.

CPRA believes that the time for national, uniform protection is long past due and that it is imperative that a proactive, aggressive campaign be undertaken to shape the debate over this important issue. Ultimately, those who have the most to lose must undertake the framework for resolution of the problem.

CPRA believes that an assertive campaign, utilizing the capital of the collective celebrity influence within the creative community, is the most effective strategy to achieve meaningful, fair federal protections. This is the core of CPRA's mission.
